wow get a new computer dude. Honestly you can get a 500$ (at most) 2duo 2gb RAM with windows Vista (which i recommend you switch to XP home edition right away)

It wouldn't be hard, but your computer might not be able to handle XP, and if it does, it'll be really laggy.

Either way stick to XP SP2How hard is it to change windows 98se to windows xp my system is 566mhz and i have 192 meg of ram it is an HP?
Right now, I can tell you that you don't have enough RAM to run Windows XP. Windows XP requires at least 512 MB of RAM to operate.
ok in all honesty it cant happen that is way to old and wont be able to handle the system your just going to have to buy a new computer
Windows 98 to Windows XP is a supported upgrade. Microsoft has a KB article covering the upgrade process...

My personal preference would be to reinstall as the two operating systems are quite different, however the upgrade option is the least hassle if you are not familiar with the installation process.

(Ignore those people who tell you your computer is too old, the processor and memory exceed the minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP. You will be limited in what you can do with it, but the upgrade should be possible with minimal effort.)
While Microsoft's specs say that your computer can run XP (if you add some RAM), I wouldn't use the word ';run'; unless you consider dead snails to be super fast. The computer won't even crawl with XP. Whimper and creep comes closer, but that's still too fast. (I've done it with a slightly faster CPU, just to see how bad it would run. It exceeded all my expectations for ';badness';. From turning on the power to being able to type something, I could have had a nice nap.)
Changing Operating System isn't all that hard, but it won't work on a computer with such a low RAM capacity.

You could possibly upgrade the RAM etc (if you could even upgrade it that high), but it would be easier and cheaper just to buy a new computer.

I recommend skipping XP and going straight to Windows 7 though; then you won't have to upgrade for a while.
Download Ubuntu U-lite OS iso file and burn on CD as ISO image, adjust in BIOS to start 1st from CDROM, save, put CD in, restart, 1st search and install if you are satisfied. It is easy. More stable, user-friendly. It is completely free! Ready to go, no need to install separate software, install with a few clicks, no viruses and spyware at all!

I doubt the system would even be able to handle the minimum specs to even run XP. Even 1 Mb of RAM is somewhat slow when running XP. I would recommend either buying a new computer or custom building one that could handle XP.
