I am in the United Kingdom and would like to know how to change Windows Media music files to MP3s.?

1. Do I need to buy a special programme

2. Do I need a download and how do I get it?

1. yes you need a special program.

2. i don't know about 'free' programs, but i use Sound Forge (made by Sony) - sells for a few hundred pounds.

google a program called dbPowerAmp. It has all sorts of converters to get from one format to another. and it's free.

is a free converotr and will do what you want, soundforge is a brillaint tool, but it had too many features, you could get lost in what you are doing, and the mp3 save option will only allows you to do 20 encodes and you will have to register that.
